–All around her, birds die from rice–

THE HITCH is a wedding-themed material novel made up of ten 4.25" x 5.5" chapbooks. Each looks similar from the outside, but has contents that both drift and cohere. While the ten books are thematically and often narratively related, each contains its own visual and textural theme, and the prose shifts in genre, from fiction to experimental memoir to lifestyle magazine feature to dramatic script.

THE HITCH highlights the aesthetic tension between fine press traditions and more haphazard modes of working, such as zines and assemblage. This tension is inherent to a wedding—an event that is historically accumulative and often becomes tacky in its attempts at lavishness—and is made evident by the printed ephemera that celebrate this theoretically eternal commitment. Production techniques vary from book to book: while all have some letterpress elements, collage and digital printing are also employed.

Three of the ten chapbooks are complete and available for sale individually here. The remainder are being released at still undetermined intervals. All ten in-progress titles are listed below. Because the books are being conceived and produced during a period of several years when the meaning of marriage is in such dramatic flux, the books perspectives—both fictional and non—will span a historically significant range. The edition size of each chapbook is between 50–60, and 20 of them will eventually be boxed together and sold as a set.
